DDR-The movie

Okay I can’t find my Burt’s Bees chapstick so already the day is down the toilet which makes reading the following development like a stake through the heart.

We’ve all gotten used to the video game movie genre, starting from 1993 with Super Mario Bros. to Tomb Raider to the most recent Max Payne.

The line, however, should probably be drawn at DDR.

That’s right.  Someone out there in the world got paid to pitch Dance Dance Revolution as a musical movie adaptation and probably got paid too much.

The plot is as follows:

It’s set in an Orwellian society where a dance prophet named Moonbeam Funk helps dancing youth gangs rebel against a fascist government. The company working on the show describes it as “like Footloose set in the future — but kind of scarier, and with 40 really attractive, barely-clothed young actors and buckets of free beer.

Starring As The World Turns actor Van Hansis:

He looks like a winner.

Oh Dear GOD. Please tell me this is a joke. Are they going for the people who woke up and were like: “Step up to the streets two was good, but I just don’t think it went far enough”?

Interestingly enough, there have been very few Movies turned into VIDEO GAMES that worked well either. Matrix the game sucked. So did Spiderman. Transformers. The Hulk. Bourne Identity had a few people who liked it, though I never got my hands on it myself. Never played a very good Batman after the old school Nintendo side scroller.

The only exception seems to be as much a suprise as the movie it’s self: word on the street is that Kung-Fu panda made a pretty sweet game.

This is clearly a bad idea.

But in defense of Van, I hear he’s a really great guy. My old roommate Anna knows him from her youth.
