The Chicago Code

Guys,  I didn’t think I’d be interested in watching a cop show that didn’t have an element of lady loving in there (even if  it’s just made up by me in subtext).

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

My criteria for loving a  tv show is it must include one or more of the following:

lesbians and/or subtext

spell casting

science fiction

vampires

mythology

british people

lauren graham

See? Cops not on the list.  Not even lady cops.

Last night, however, after watching the This Just Out interview with UH HUH HER about a million times and missing Alice.  Just alice. some of my favorite L Word people I decided to check out The Chicago Code.

Right off the bat, Shawn Ryan (creator of The Shield) made a great decision.  He cast J. Beals as Teresa Colvin, Chicago’s first female superintendent.

Beals is incredible as alpha dog.  It reminded me of all the great times we had with Bette.  JB is pretty much perfect at being fierce and vulnerable all at the same time which is enough to give you a fierce but vulnerable hard-on (?).

The basic premise is that Colvin, only six months in the role of superintendent, decides to take on the corruption in Chicago starting with Alderman Ronin Gibbons, the man who endorsed her position. The VO throughout threw me off a bit

Spoilers:

She knows Gibbons is in with the Irish mob but it is difficult to prove.  Colvin proposes a task force to focus on corruption but is rejected by Gibbons. She decides to start it anyway. She calls on former partner, Detective Jarek Wysocki, to take on a role in this new task force.  He and his new partner, Caleb,  begin to investigate what looks like a routine robbery and murder of a husband and wife. They soon discover that the woman was working for Fergus construction, a company responsible for some of the city’s buildings.  Things start to get dicey when a co-worker of the deceased woman tell Wysocki that the woman was about to blow the whistle on some shady contracts.  Who does she tell? Gibbons; who happens to also be on the board for Fergus.

Other important things to know:

  • Jarek Wysocki, aside from having a weird first name,  is having an affair (like had sex on his teenage son’s bed) with his ex-wife despite being engaged to a young 27 year old.
  • Jarek’s niece, Vonda Wysocki, is also on the force.  He father was a cop and was killed in the line of duty.

Other very important things to know:

Vonda has some homo potential

How do I know?  The same way I know in real life.  I make it up.

Now its no Rizolli and Isles but its worth checking out a few more episodes.
