Obama in league with cyborgs

The APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) 2010 which was held in Japan this year gave an opportunity to let Japan display some of their latest killing machines robots.  President Obama was on site checking out the robots. The toys on hand?

Older gay people tell us whats up

Who better to tell you that life gets better than the people who’ve lived way longer than you.   This video, from the LGBT Aging Project and Ethos, has two things I love; gay people and old people.

Happy Friday homos!

This is how you’re going to die

Apparently a Slovenian Robotics Lab is teaching robots to punch humans.  The purpose?  To set limits on pain should a robot ever fucking punch a human!

Borut Povše, working for the University of Ljubljana, is trying to set the robot expectations in order to obey Asimov’s three Laws of Robotics:

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  2. A robot must obey any orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Povše says, “even robots designed to Asimov’s laws can collide with people. We are trying to make sure that when they do, the collision is not too powerful,” Povše says. “We are taking the first steps to defining the limits of the speed and acceleration of robots, and the ideal size and shape of the tools they use, so they can safely interact with humans.”

The robot was acquired from Japan’s Epson company.

Ugandan newspaper releases names of gay people

So remember when I posted about that youtube video where a pastor, ignorantly, explains why gay people suck?

It was posted in a joking way but a very real response to Uganda’s recently proposed law that penalizes gay people by long-term jail time or just, you know, death.

Now a Ugandan newspaper, Rolling Stone (not affiliated with the magazine) has released the names and addresses of 100 people suspect of being call.  The list appears next to a call to “hang them”.

It essentially encourages everyday citizens to take the law into their own hands and kill anyone they think may be homosexual.

I know things have been really fucking terrible for the queer community with the recent suicides and I’m not trying to minimize the significance of the lives lost.  But, GOD DAMN! at least we live in a country where the government can’t come outright and say “kill the homos”.  Politicians and the media find much more subversive and clever way to encourage the queer community’s demise but our names aren’t printed in the newspaper next to a call to arms.

Pepe, a program coordinator for Sexual Minorities Uganda, said, “we are providing some with psychological support,” she said. “People have been attacked, we are having to relocate others, some are quitting their jobs because they are being verbally abused. It’s a total commotion.”

Giles Muhame, the newspaper’s editor, said they released the list in hopes that homosexuals would be arrested.

Officials attempted to stop the newspaper but only under the guise that they did not have the right permit to print the story.

Let’s hope that some changes in America’s legislation can have a worldwide effect for those who live in countries less progressive that our own.

Nicole Kidman needs a wife

David Erbershoff‘s novel, The Danish Girl (2000), is being adapted to film.  The author’s first novel tells the story of Lilie Elbe, the world’s first trans woman.

(Einer)

Lilie was born Einar Mogens Wegener in Denmark in 1886 (according to Erbershoff’s book). He married Gerda Gottlieb and the two worked as artists.  It is believed Einar realized his affinity for women’s clothing when he dressed as a woman for Gerda’s portraits.  Gerda’s paintings became quite famous and so did Einer when it was revealed he had been the female model in her work.  From that point on Einer went to public functions in women’s dress and eventually became the man to have sex reassignment surgery in the world.

(Gerda)

Nicole Kidman is set to play Einer/Lili and Charlize Theron was set to play Gerda but dropped out of the role for unknown reasons. Gwyneth Platrow briefly replaced her only to drop out of the role as well. No word on who replace her.

The film has also switched directors once.  It was being directed by Tomas Alfredson (Let The Right One In) but he has now been replaced by Lasse Hallstrom (My Life As a Dog) .

I say give Tilda Swinton both roles and be done with it.

Comic Books hate Rev. Phelps

Nerds Unite!

The Westboro Baptist church showed at Comic Con to pickets idolatry as promised and my fellow nerds showed up in spades to counter-picket.

There are some incredibly hilarious signs…if you’re a nerd.

Rev. Phelps hates Comic Books

If you’re not familiar with Reverend Phelps count yourself lucky.   Even knowing his name is a waste of brain cells.  Phelps is the head of the Westboro Baptist Church that promotes itself as “Site of anti-homosexual propagandist Fred Phelps of Topeka, Kansas.”

He’s been known to say things like:

  • “God Hates Fags”,
  • “Thank God for Dead Soldiers”
  • “America Is Doomed”
  • “Priests Rape Boys”
  • “God Hates Jews”

Julianne Moore

on whether or not she has an affinity for the gay community:

“I always hate to be divisive about gender or sexuality or race or anything like that. I feel like sometimes, even with the best of intentions, when we put ourselves into boxes, it ends up being a less universal thing.
But I will say that I’ve always worked with filmmakers who are interested in very human, not so much plot driven, stories — more kind of character and emotionally driven. And a lot of gay filmmakers fall into that category.”
